The History of Termessos:
Termessos's first appearance in history is in the Iliad, an epic poem by the Ionian poet Homer, who lived thousands of years ago. Homer mentions that the ancient Greek hero, known for slaying dragons while riding the winged horse Pegasus, tasked the King of Lycia with conquering Termessos.
Despite the legends it contains, the information it provides about city-states through this historical source has led to the discovery of many cultural heritage sites, including Termessos. For example, it is believed that Alexander the Great did not lose a single battle in his Asian campaign, which extended as far as present-day Iran.
